The Reviews

I set out looking for a new iPod because after 2 long years of my previous 2GB iPod nano (1st gen) it was full to the brim I would still have had about 200MB left on it. However apple never give the full amount due to the operating system of the iPod itself using space on it?s internal hard drive which is slightly annoying but that goes without saying.

So, I went and purchased my 8GB iPod nano from PC world. I brought it home and quickly plugged it into my computer, iTunes found it just fine and hardware was installed automatically. I was surprised to see this as with my old 1st generation iPod nano there was a driver CD included.

Next, I synced all of my songs from iTunes onto my iPod. This seemed to be a smooth process. However I ejected my iPod from the computer via iTunes and turned it on. I was horrified to find that some of my tracks weren?t playing. They just seemed stuck on 0:00.
This was a major downfall, however it was resolved after a few iPod restore sessions.
It took a lot of trial and error in the first place to finally get it to play the songs. It was by pure chance that it happened to play in the end.

Anyway let?s get onto the new features.

There is a new user interface which is absolutely stunning compared to what it was on the older nanos. There are previews of videos, photos and album art that gently glide across half of the screen leaving the menu for your viewing pleasure. Adding to that the screen is 65% brighter than ever before.

Another new track finding feature is the album cover flow. You can choose was song/album you want to listen to via this feature.

A new game called Vortex has also emerged. It is the old brick game in a circle shaped arena with fantastic graphics, this is responsible for my lack of battery right now!

Speaking of Battery life the new iPods life is one worth mentioning it runs for 24 hours music play back and 4 -5 hours video play back. Charging however it simple, just plug into your computer and you?re away!

The new nano color ranges from silver to green and of course has the silver back which the 1st generation nano had. However there is a downfall to this as it scratches very easily. I would recommend getting a tough durable skin such as the iSkin. I purchased one before I bought the nano itself due to my previous iPod falling foul to scratches and aesthetic damage.

Overall this small dinky addition to apples ever growing iPod family is second to none on quality and on looks. You should definitely consider it if you are looking for a new MP3 or iPod replacement.

The iPod is probably one of Apple's greatest creations, it's sales are still booming and it seems that there is a "new generation" of iPod coming out every month. It's hard to keep up with this market! It was only 1 or 2 years ago when we had the brick iPod with no colour screen!? now we look back and laugh... but its scary how technology has developed.

So is this new iPod as good as it possibly can be? Well, its extremely light (weighing in at just 1.74 oz) but dont underestimate its power. This has a large screen for what it is and it has the ability to playback full length videos on its 4GB or 8GB hard drive.

It also looks fantastic, but not much has been changed from its previous model apart from smoothing of the edges.

The only question left is whether next months new iPod will be better?

This is my favourite product that I've bought in a long time,
This new version of the nano, designed in california, definitely gets my thumbs up. Although it is much the same size as the old nano, they have made it shorter but wider, to make it so you can view videos better. And for me it works marvelously. The Nano comes in a tiny box all you have to do is simply download itunes from the website and you're are on your way. I put 150 songs on in one go, took no longer than a minute, which I was really impressed with. It comes in 8gb and 4gb if your planning on watching videos i would recommend the 8gb it's only an extra ?30 for double the space so why not. The battery life is brilliant, I have only run out once since I have had it.
The only draw back was that the games take up alot of battery. But what the hell it's an MP3 player not a gameboy.
