The Reviews

This clever computer multi plug will save you money and hassle, automatically switching off any equipment linked to your computer, such as your printer, scanner or speakers, when you shut down. PowerDown also helps to protect your sensitive computer equipment from the hazards of voltage spikes and power surges.

I got mine free from an EON promotion but the RRP is 12 GBP. It really is simplicity itself. Just plug the PowerDown into your mains socket, plug your PC into the top socket of the PowerDown, then plug peripherals into the two side sockets (or plug your peripherals into an extension lead and plug the extension lead into one of the side sockets, which is what I did). Next time you power up your PC your peripherals will power up automatically, and when you power off your PC the peripherals do the same.

Two main reasons I like this product:
a) Environmentally friendly. My speakers and scanner both have transformers and these consume power even when everything is off. Not any more.

b) Ease of use. There are no knobs or switches to adjust, unlike an equivalent product sold by B&Q which was so fiddly to set up I gave up. Just plug in and off you go.

Problems:
None that I have encountered. Current model only works with PCs, but a laptop compatible version is supposed to be available sometime next year.

Protection or Precaution?
Norton, McAfee, AVG, Bitfinder. All these companies promise to protect your PC from any virus or hacker that may want to harm your computer. But do any of them actually work? Or is it just fleecing you of yet more money for nothing!?
