The Reviews

Review by: Alex Edwards
Personal Rating: 8/10

The EVGA 8800 card is one sexy looking piece of Kit. A matt black finish with silvered writing just screams class. As I took mine out of the box I was giddy with excitement. I had finally acquired a DirectX 10 card.

Installation
The installation of the card was as ever with a PCI-E card, a doddle. Just a quick slip on job and one screw to fasten to the main body of the case and you're good to go.

Ease Of Use
Those clever people over at Microsoft and EVGA have made the card fantastically easy to use. Once I had booted up with the new card in Vista instantly recognised the new piece of hardware and started going about installing drivers for it. Once it had the basics I popped on over to the Nvidia Forceware site and downloaded the latest version so as to ensure I was going to achieve the maximum performance out of my investment. The software installed seamlessly and after a quick reboot I was rearing to go.

Performance
I was amazed at the performance of the card vs. my old 7800GTX. I was achieving in increase of about 40FPS in every game, ranging from Supreme Commander to Half Life 2. I had everything maxed out, including AA!

Value For Money
Although this card is a little pricey and is understandably out of some people's price range, I thoroughly suggest saving up to purchase one of these rather than opting for a the lesser 320MB version which just doesn't even give its more powerful brother, the 640MB version, a good race.

Conclusion
A thoroughly good card that blows away all current games and will be able to stand up to the likes of Crysis and other DirectX 10 games in the future. Highly recommended!!
