The Reviews

Review by: Ian Clark
Personal Rating: 8/10

I bought the Microsoft Laser 5000 because I'm not sure if any other users have the same problem, whenever I use a optical mouse I get strange periods of the pointer flying all over the place. I was looking for precision.

I bought it for ?25 from Amazon.co.uk and it arrived shortly after. Unlike quite a lot of normal mouses it has essentially 5 buttons, and the scrollwheel can also move from left to right. These nice touches simply make it easier to use.

The mouse is nicely shaped and being wireless it's easy enough to maneuver. One possibly annoying thing is that the extra two buttons that come with this mouse can only really be assigned whilst using the software on the CD, which some users may find as a bit laggy and leachy on their CPU.

The Only Problem
To date, the only problem I have had with this mouse is the occasional wireless signal strength failure. Despite the dongle being a mere 15 or so centimeters from the mouse every month or so it might just have a little trouble. At first you might be annoyed, but it's easy enough to resolve as you just need to refresh the signal. If you do get this problem, don't just leave it to resolve itself because it just won't.

In terms of value for money, well, ?25 is really quite deer for a product that does little more than many other mice, but the laser technology makes it excellent for precision and it looks, feels and performs great.

I recommend if you use a lot of graphics software or play a lot of computer games, this is the mouse for you, as it just won't let you down.

Protection or Precaution?
Norton, McAfee, AVG, Bitfinder. All these companies promise to protect your PC from any virus or hacker that may want to harm your computer. But do any of them actually work? Or is it just fleecing you of yet more money for nothing!?
