The Reviews

Review by: Liam Spencer
Personal Rating: 10/10

Used an iPod for years but this player is so much better! Main thing, sound quality is better - iPod always sounded a bit light weight to me with expensive headphones, Sony just sounds better and is more enjoyable to listen to. Control is so much better than iPod with nice buttons you can feel, no more sudden deafness with the sensitive touch wheel volume control of the iPod! Operation is faster than iPod and doesn't slow down when music is playing.
Thankfully the SonicStage software is gone and it now uses Windows Media Player or drag and drop. WMP still has problems with AAC files but the Walkman plays them perfectly with drag & drop. Hopefully Sony will fix this soon with the yet to be released Media Manager. Videos look great on this screen and many podcasts play perfectly.

Good Points of the player

- Small and light, far smaller than the 3D on Sony's site suggests
- Great looking
- Very simple operation, quick start guide has the basics, download the full version from Sony to work out the bells and whistles (if you can be bothered)
- Good sound, with a nice solid pair of in-ear headphones
- Screen looks good
- Transfer of music files from WMP is a doddle and very fast
- Headphone cable is shirt pocket length, with an extension for us ladies to have in coat pockets. I guess this is a pro if you dislike tangles, maybe a con if you think it's one extra connection to go wrong.

Let downs

- If you want to protect the screen from scratches, you'll need to buy a cover separately
- No radio
- Screen probably too small to really watch any extended video on, but the demo provided looks pretty.
- Only charger supplied is USB, for the initial 3 hour charge meant I had to convince my laptop not to go into standby to complete the charge. For travelling I guess a USB cable is far tinier than a three-pin and transformer, but does rely on you having access to a USB port.

Overall a great buy!

Protection or Precaution?
Norton, McAfee, AVG, Bitfinder. All these companies promise to protect your PC from any virus or hacker that may want to harm your computer. But do any of them actually work? Or is it just fleecing you of yet more money for nothing!?
