Ok I will admitt that this console is a little over priced but the main thing is that a PS3 comes with everything already built in while the Xbox 360 shaves off some price to get you more likely to buy it but to get this cost cut in place they have to leave out some heavy duty technology. You will have to buy wireless network controllers, an external HD DVD drive etc... the PS3 does not have any hidden extras.

Secondly, while the XBox live campaign revolves around existing memberships, this comes a a monthly cost to the subscriber. The PS3 online community is a free subscription. Sure you still need an account created and there is nothing to stop them putting a fee on in the future but for the time being it is a free sign up.

CAUTION!!!! Just as a quick note to anyone considering buying a cheaper version of the PS3 (i.e. the 40Gb version) just be aware that while 20Gb is not the end of the world the big thing to note is the fact that the 40Gb version is not backwards compatible - this means all those loveable PS2 games will not work, so your choice of game is going to be limited to what you can afford to buy brand new for the PS3.

About Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD: This is being compared to the war between VHS and Beta. While at this stage it is impossible to tell what will happen with the new formats as there is already some concern over a new format realtively soon after DVD's were main stream, remember that no matter which format is technically better, the winner (if there is one) will be the one with the best marketing ploy, not necessarily the best technology. Beta was technically better than VHS but went the way of the dinosaur due to bad marketing...but both new formats are nice, hold a lot of data and have vast potential in the gaming market especially due to the extra content this inevitably will bring to the gamer of tomorrow.

In the end it is a personal choice, and neither the 360 or PS3 will dissappoint in graphics. It is still early days in the game market to compare game titles yet but the Wii will be a favourite among younger gamers and familys while the PS3 and 360 will hit it off more for the hard-core gamer. Whichever you choose - enjoy!

Oh my god the ps3, where do I start. The 60GB Hard drive is kind of lacking at the overpriced ?400. And not to many games were released the day it was launched so you didn't have to much of a choice of games. The games now are very bad, around a mere 2/5 of the games are good with many being delayed, but after seeing the E3 (Games release festival), I saw a lot of good upcoming games that might be worth it. Regardless, I'd rather wait a year or so until the price drops.

The ps3 simply costs to much and takes to much energy. Currently in my opinion, the Nintendo Wii and Microsofts' Xbox 360 are far more impressive, A lot of people were anticipating the PS3 to be a real hit, after it's previous release the Playstation 2 dominated the market.

From September 30th, the PS3 had 295 titles, whilst the Wii and Xbox had 343 and 390 titles respectively; not a very good sign. I'm sure that despite all of this, Sony will still generate huge sales from the Playstation, but the PS3 just lacks that perfection. In my opinion, If I were you, I'd avoid the Playstation 3, and wait a couple of years for the sure-to-be Playstation 4.

I've had the first and second Playstation and both mine didn't break but ironically my Wii doesnt load the disc sometimes...

Not exactly. Nintendo are constantly updating the wii, there's always something new! Sony concentrated too much on graphics though. The graphics could be amazing, but they can never get it perfect. I prefer games that have unique graphics, (like paper mario for the wii). And Performance? The PS3 is a disaster! i would bet you ?1,000,000 (if i had it) that the PS3 will end up like every other Playstation; a reason to go to the nearest game shop to get it repaired.

The point is amazingly realistic graphics with sixaxis (Similar to the Wii) mixed with soon to be quality games and top notch performance. But they are too pricey! I can see what you mean but the Wii does get a little boring after the novelty wears off.

I would never get one of these. What's the point when you can have more fun for half the price with a wii?

This looks really nice! but to be honest I'm not sure your really getting what you pay for? Perhaps in a year or so this will have come down in price a lot and be a bit more respectable. But it looks a great machine and if i had the money I'd get one!
