The Reviews
I purchase the TomTom, mainly because not only was I looking for a GPS system, but I was also after a product that would work, after hearing some incredible stories of people going as far as to drive of a bridge over their SatNav's commands. I wanted a product that ultimately got me from A to B without any fuss. The TomTom certainly provides this.
In terms of the build, the quality is altogether very good. I purchase a black one, but I'm aware that they also come in silver. The screen is fairly vibrant, and is 4.3" large, which in my opinion is a nice size, as it's still incredibly easy to read and yet light and small enough to carry around with me.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that I was a technophobe, but I certainly was after a SatNav that was easy to use, and was easy to pick up. The large graphics and clear font are very useful in quickly inputting data and ultimately getting you to your destination. The great thing about this GPS system however, is it's functionality. It's packed full of things that I found extremely useful.
Along with an exceptionally good navigation system, the Bluetooth options were are really nice, and allow me to connect to my phone. I can also hook it up to control my new iPod, which is another pro. The Go 720 also has a large icon saying "help me!" which locates you the nearest first aid / hospital / surgery - which is quite a convenient little kit, providing you carefully select your moments to get injured!
What I really liked about this device was it's ability to be customized. I'm able to completely zoom in and out in map view (granted you can do on most), but the thing I really really like, is TomTom's MapShare functionality. I have used many different GPS system in the past, and ultimately all of them have flaws. There is always the odd mistake in the navigation, a missing road or what-not. Using the TomTom MapShare you can actively help out by editing road names, adding roads and more. Some might call it laziness on TomTom's part, but I really like it. It's a way for everyone to chip in to avoid a possible inconvenience for the next TomTom user.
At £320, this isn't an item you're simply going to buy on impulse, but you know what, I like it, and after a number of months of using it, I have to say I really like it. I'm sure the bluetooth and music features will not appeal to some, and I do feel that there are plenty more fish in the sea so to speak, but if you want a piece of kit that gets you easily from A to B without much fuss and packed full of features, this is the one for you.
